THE GREEN DRINK DAILY MOTTO

One of the queries I’m perpetually asked is, “If you had to settle on one issue to be healthier, what wouldn’t it be?” My answer is usually constant, a “green” drink.
Most of us do not consume enough nutrient-rich foods to build a healthy body. In fact, it’s almost impossible to eat enough of the nutrients our bodies require on a daily basis. Many people end up taking supplements, hoping to replace what they don’t get from their food when supplements are not proven to always do the job.
All you have to do is commit to starting this process of changing how you eat. You don’t have to begin by giving up anything; all you need to do is to start incorporating one thing from my plan. I call it

1. Drink a green juice or smoothie daily
2. Walk 30 minutes daily
3. Do 5 push-ups daily
4. Do 5 sit-ups daily
5. Stretch 5 minutes daily
6. Stay positive daily
7. Laugh daily
8. Love daily

One of the easiest and simplest ways to get all these nutrients your body needs is to consume a green drink on a daily basis. It is so easy and takes less time to make than the usual breakfast or stopping for morning coffee. This drink will supply you with energy lasting until late in the day.
Taking supplements is not as effective as having a green drink. Many supplements can be misused, resulting in toxicity and liver damage. You can get all your nutrients from a plant-based diet when including juicing and smoothies. Green drinks are not to be mistaken for the juice you purchase in the market cooler section, which is processed and lacks vital enzymes and nutrients. Of course, I would recommend a processed juice before recommending a carbonated sugary drink or coffee. Once you get used to making delicious green drinks at home, they will only take minutes and you will start to crave them. You will soon notice the difference in the way you look and feel.
Many people say they feel the positive effects after consuming their very first-morning drink. Incorporating green drinks into your daily diet will help transition you into a healthier lifestyle. When you give your body the vitamins and nutrients it needs, the desire for unhealthy and addictive foods drop away naturally.
Definition of a green juice: A green juice is made with a juicer. When fruits and vegetables are juiced, fiber is filtered out, leaving a very smooth liquid beverage. Pure juice is predigested and very healing for the body. All the nutrients and vitamins mins are captured even though the fiber is indented, giving your body a rest from all the work it does to digest.
Juicing is better than well-chewed food because most of us don’t actually chew our food well enough. Juicing helps build a strong immune system, raises energy levels and brain function. If we juice a raw carrot, we are getting all the benefits of the carrot, including beta-carotene (vitamin A), enzymes, and antioxidants. We get all the benefits into our system quickly to nourish our tissues, bones, and vital organs. The excess is passed quickly through the body, keeping our colon healthy and clean.

Definition of a green smoothie: A green smoothie is made in a high-powered blender. In a smoothie, filtered water is added to fruits and vegetables to make the drink of a smooth consistency. The fiber from the vegetables and fruits is broken down to minute particles. When you consume the drink, you slightly chew its thicker texture. Smoothies are a little quicker to make than juicing because the fruits and vegetables go into the blender jar roughly chopped and are blended in minutes. When you drink a smoothie, you have done something really good for yourself, and like pure juice, the smoothie helps sweep your colon clean.
Blended or juiced green drinks are full of needed live enzymes. Green drinks act as a blood detoxifier, are very low in calories and are high in minerals. They are a source of chlorophyll and will give your skin a glow by flushing toxins and disease from your body.

Our bodies are maintained and kept healthy by how we digest the food we eat. We need enzymes to break down the food that enter our system. Our natural enzymes can be depleted over time and our bodies do not produce new ones, so we need to add them to our daily diet. When we drink a green drink, we are absorbing pure enzymes from the fruits and vegetables.
I’m often asked if eating a fruit or vegetable is just as healthy for you as making a green drink. Of course eating fruits and vegetables (a nice apple or carrot) would provide nutrients, but we could never eat enough in a day to get all we need or chew the fruits and vegetables well enough to indent all the nutrients before it passed through our body. I’ve found nothing is as beneficial as a daily green drink. It can pack more nutrients in one drink than we can consume in a plate of salad. One large glass of juice can supply us with more nutrients than we could get from eating three vegetable meals a day. By having one green drink every day, we can consume many more fruits and vegetables than we could ever eat.
A drink could contain apple, celery, cucumber, broccoli, red bell pepper, and spinach. This one drink alone provides us with a wide variety of daily vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and micronutrients, and it’s all predigested. Yes, it’s good to eat salads and whole fruit, but not in place of green drinks. I find a green drink in the morning and a big vegetable salad for lunch or dinner is a perfect combination. There are endless combinations of green juices and smoothies. Once you get started, you will quickly be creating your own.

Tip

Add greens to any smoothie drink,
along with goji berries, maca, hemp seeds,
and fresh berries for more antioxidant
and nutritional value.

When selecting organic fruits and vegetables for green drinks, purchase fresh, brightly colored produce without bruises. Buy local fruits in season when they are at their peak and less expensive. Freeze fruits in season to enjoy in smoothies long after they are gone from the market.
One of my favorite fruits to freeze is bananas. When they are ripe and spotted with brown specks, peel and freeze in an airtight container or ziplock bag. Bananas are perfect to sweeten up any smoothie. Markets put spotted bananas on a discount rack in the produce department, and these are perfect for freezing as their natural sugars are at their peak. If you find a large blackened area where the banana is soft to the touch, it is usually a bruise and you can cut the spot out before freezing.
Freeze berries or fruit in containers that will be moisture-resistant and easy to seal. I use plastic freezer ziplock bags or snap-lid glass containers. To prepare fruit for freezing, pick over and discard any bruised or soft spots. Lightly wash and pat dry. Remove pits and stems. Berries can be frozen whole while other fruits might need to be cut into pieces. Freeze small portions that can be used completely from the container to make one or two smoothies. The secret of keeping fruits and berries separated and not frozen into one lump is to place them on a baking sheet, not touching each other, and freeze for twenty to thirty minutes to harden, then place them in individual containers to store in the freezer.
